Ten ways to honor teachers
Honor the teachers in your congregation, and thank them for their important ministry.

- Have a summer Sunday sundae celebration. Treat the teachers to ice cream sundaes, compliments of the congregation. Be sure to offer a low- or no-sugar alternative.
- Give plants or bulbs to teachers with a note saying, “The church is growing because of you.”
- Offer flexibility in the teaching arrangements in terms of time commitments, length of terms, or partners in teaching.
- Be an enthusiastic role model.
- Match up inexperienced teachers with seasoned ones in mentoring relationships.
- Offer to reimburse out-of-pocket expenses that teachers incur as part of their ministry.
- Give teachers a Talkabout each quarter.
- Plan an “Encouragement Sunday.” Write the teachers’ names on slips of paper. Invite people from the congregation to take a name and secretly encourage the teacher during the week.
- Budget for seminars, books, workshops, or other in-service trainings. Give each teacher a copy of the Gather ’Round Handbook.
- Say thank you often as a reminder of the importance of their ministry.
