Applying to write for Gather ’Round

Gather 'Round contracts with writers for each quarter of the curriculum year. All positions are filled for the current writing year. The next writing opportunity will be for the 2012-13 curriculum year.

Preference is given to writers who are active members of Church of the Brethren or Mennonite congregations. Accepted writers will attend a writers conference in the spring of 2011. Writers produce, on average, one session per week. Writing deadlines are staggered quarter by quarter. Manuscripts are posted electronically to the Gather 'Round wiki wiki web, a web-based collaborative writing platform. After submitting manuscripts, writers work with content editors to refine their work.

Curriculum writers will be needed for Preschool (ages 3-4), Primary (K-grade 2), Middler (grades 3-5), Multiage (grades K-5), Junior Youth (grades 6-8), and Youth (grades 9-12). Most ages have a teacher's guide, a student book, and a resource pack containing posters, games, and other learning aids. View sample sessions online at http://www.gatherround.org/freesamplesessions.html.

Payment varies according to the age group and amount of material that is required, and is prorated based on the number of weeks (12-14) in a given quarter. Payment is divided into installments and final payment is made when all requested revisions have been satisfactorily completed and the unit has been sent to design.

To apply, please complete the complete the Writer application and submit it, along with a current resume, to gatherround@brethren.org. We try to acknowledge all applications by e-mail within five business days. If you don't hear from us, please contact us again to be sure there was not a cyber-glitch in your original submission.

You will be contacted later with information about how to write and submit a sample session.

If you have questions, please contact Anna Speicher, project director and senior editor, using the contact information at http://www.gatherround.org/contactus.html. Thank you for your interest in the faith formation ministry of the church.
